Have you ever wondered "why does my horse do that?"
Horses have been evolving for 65 million years; it is only for a relatively short amount of time that we have domesticated them and put the demands of modern day life on them.

Have you ever thought about where your horse came from?
We are now in the situation where there are no wild horses so we have to use information from other wild equids such as the plains zebra (equus burchellii), one of the horse's closest cousins. Through the study of their natural behaviour we can make deductions about how our horses would behave in the wild.

Why is all of this important?
If we understand where our horse comes from and what motivates him to behave the way he does, we can be more understanding and compassionate when we are modifying behaviours.

How do we practically implement this science?
By making simple management changes we can allow your horse to fulfil his behavioural needs and so you will have a happier horse who is better behaved and easier to train. Take sleep as an example, how much better do you function if you have a good night sleep? Yet consider how little we know as horse owners about normal equine sleep pattens.

Should we be using coercion in our training?
Why do we give a dog a bone but when we train our horses we use whips and spurs? By using positive reinforcement (reward based) training with your horse you could unlock the magic and enthusiasm for training.
